Business and Commercial Solar Systems

Solar Systems for Business

For a business that generally operates during daylight hours, having a solar system to provide this power makes perfect sense from all perspectives. Grid usage can be offset to reduce energy bills, and freedom from load-shedding is easily achievable.

The quickest payback on a solar system is achieved with a Grid-tied system, because there are no batteries and so capital outlay is minimized here. This type of solar does not provide backup power however, as a grid-tied system is not allowed to feed power during a grid outage, but a storage component could be added if uninterrupted power is what your business requires.

An important figure to find is the daily electrical requirements of the business. Monthly usage figures can be averaged out to arrive at these figures and ideally averaged over 12 months. To be accurate, we would place a data-logger on your supply over a representative time of usage, to be able to accurately project what size system will be required to provide this power.

It will usually make sense for bigger businesses to feed excess power from the Solar System, back to the grid, and this requires an SSEG (Small Scale Embedded Generation) application in the local area. Depending on NMD (Notified Maximum Demand) and the Transformer size, a certain amount of energy is allowed to be fed back to the grid from this point.
